Since 2006, Duke University, Vanderbilt and University of California at Berkeley have started a trend of posting videos on youtube and even having their own official youtube channel.
I believe that apart from it being an unsung method of alluring people to enroll and get a view of their university (outside of their official websites), it is also a way of informing everyone all over the world what they have to offer.
Of all these associated youtube pages, the most enticing is that of UC at Berkeley, where they've actually recorded a semester worth of footage of class sessions in courses ranging from Interactive Biology to Bioengineering, and Environmental Law and Policy to Political Science.
Yes, I said it, it almost like going to college for free, or even from the comfort from your computer.

What it actually is is the spread of knowledge and information. It's created by the Creative Commons act which encourages the spread of free information; yes, free information.
